Abstract

This paper deals with a comparative study of translations obtained from two online machine translation tools (Google Translate and DeepL) for boundary-crossing motion events. Taking English as the source language, a typologically different language from Spanish and Italian, a list of Manner motion verbs has been combined with postverbal constructions encoding cross-boundary Paths. The aim is to comparatively analyze machine translations produced in Spanish and Italian using Google Translate and DeepL and present the data gathered about preferences in the lexicalization pattern for Path and Manner encoding in both languages compared to English.
